SAVE THE DATE: STOUFFVILLE’S TERRY FOX RUN RETURNS SEPT. 15

Sports groups encouraged to take part in event that

has raised $2.2 million for cancer research since 1982

July 9, 2024, STOUFFVILLE, ON – Save the date, Stouffville. The Terry Fox Run is returning to Stouffville Memorial Park on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

The 2023 event drew approximately 1,000 participants and volunteers who raised more than $76,000 for cancer research. Since 1982, the Stouffville run has raised $2.2 million.

New this year, Stouffville’s many sports teams and organizations are being challenged to take part. The Whitchurch-Stouffville Soccer Club and its 1,000-plus members have already expressed interest. Some teams within the club have already made a pledge towards this year’s run.

Festivities begin at 12 noon featuring entertainment, displays, refreshments and children’s activities.

The opening ceremonies begin at 1 p.m.

“The Stouffville Terry Fox Run is a shining example of community collaboration for a well-known cause, and I have always thought it’s the best day of the year,” said run co-chair Adele Palmer. “It’s a beautiful day of hope and raising money and awareness for The Terry Fox Foundation. That research saves countless lives and makes survival an option for those who are battling.”

“It is an honour to see Stouffville’s community shine as “A Terry Town” and we are thrilled with our  new route in conjunction with the Town planners and to be recipients of grants from the Whitchurch-Stouffville Legacy Fund. “

This year’s run will follow a 5K course through southern Stouffville that begins and ends in the park. With safety in mind, some changes to the route have been made to keep participants on municipal sidewalks and off streets. A 2K route is also provided.

You can run, walk, cycle, ride a wheelchair, push a stroller or rollerblade.

Entertainment will be provided at water stations along the route by local favourites Tom Pullin, the Tanya Porter drum group and Kendall Lily.

Organizers are again sending a special invitation to those Cancer survivors.

“Seeing the red shirts in our crowd every year  provides such a sense of hope and resilience,” said co-chair Stacey FitzPatrick. “They continue to inspire us and we welcome anyone in our community who is a survivor or currently battling to get in touch if they would like a red shirt and join us on run day so we can celebrate with you.”

Survivors are given those special red T-shirts and lawn signs recognizing their survivor status.

Stouffville businesses, service clubs, churches, families and those sports organizations are encouraged to form a team, like the 35 teams who took part in the 2023 run. Teams receive special recognition during the event. They can pre-order Terry Fox T-shirts with their team name printed on them.

To enter a team, register a survivor or volunteer email tfox.stouffville@gmail.com or call 416-768-6971.
