Local event has raised more than $2.1 million for cancer research since 1982
June 11, 2022, STOUFFVILLE, ON – Save the date, Stouffville. The Terry Fox Run is returning to Memorial Park after a two-year COVID hiatus on Sept. 18, 2022,.
The last run, in 2019, drew approximately 800 participants and volunteers who raised more than $50,000 for cancer research. Since 1982, the Stouffville Run has raised $2.1 million.
“Even during the past two years, when we couldn’t all be together, Stouffville came through in the name of Terry,” said run chair Stacey Fitzpatrick. “Now, we’re so excited to be able to gather together again.”
In 2020 and 2021, participants were asked to take part virtually within their bubble in their own neighbourhoods.
This year’s run will follow the same 5K course through southern Stouffville that participants have used the past several years. You can run, walk, cycle or rollerblade.
Organizers are again sending a special invitation to Cancer survivors.
“They are the reason we’re all in Memorial Park for the day,” said FitzPatrick. “Seeing all those survivors in their red shirts approach the stage to begin our run every September makes it all so worthwhile for all our participants and volunteers.”
“If you are a survivor or know of one, we want to honour them.”
Survivors are given those special red T-shirts and lawn signs recognizing their survivor status.
Stouffville businesses, service clubs, churches and families are encouraged to form a team, like the 30 teams who took part in the 2019 run. Teams receive special recognition during the event. They can pre-order Terry Fox T-shirts with their team name printed on them.
